Supreme Court 9-0 Ruling: Victory for America
Poignantly, opinion announced on 159th anniversary of Lincoln's second inaugural
In the spirit of President Abraham Lincoln, I will make this brief.
The Supreme Court has spoken. “‘45” will remain on the ballot in Colorado and, therefore, in Maine, which had nixed him, too, both holding their primaries tomorrow, “Super Tuesday.” The ruling ensures he will remain on every ballot across the fruited plain.
Their opinion, issued on the 159th anniversary of Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address on March 4, 1865, when the bloody, soul-searing “American Civil War” (April 12, 1861 – April 9, 1865), Ken Burns brilliantly documented, was in its final weeks, reenacted some 100 years later by Hal Holbrooke on the Ed Sullivan show, is poignant, signaling the desire of the Court, in Lincoln’s immortal words, that:
“With malice toward none with charity for all with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right let us strive on to finish the work we are in to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan ~ to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.”
Amen.
Let Americans engage in the miracle of democracy the next eight months and if they choose former President Donald J. Trump on November 5, 2024 to course correct —secure the border, unleash American energy and thereby enable Amerca’s economy and national security to regain its strength so that America, once again, might be that “shining city upon a hill,” as President Ronald Reagan envisioned—as polls show they are going to do resoundingly: “too big to rig,” as the former and likely future president said on Saturday in Richmond, Virginia — that is the will of the American people.
That is the miracle of American democracy. But powerful forces are conspiring to try and thwart it. Let the miracle of America do what it does so well and may God bless America.
